Senior Tories are convinced disgraced former aides are still advising May on foreign and Brexit policy

Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill were ousted from Downing Street in the aftermath of the general election, with various backbenchers claiming they created a toxic environment and blaming them for the disastrous election campaign which saw Theresa May lose her majority.

However, senior Conservative MPs have warned Theresa May not to reopen relations with the aides as rumours float that she is contact with them on “Brexit and other policies.”

1922 Committee executive member, Nigel Evans, is one who has spoken out about the rumour, saying he hopes it isn’t true. “She has already paid a heavy price for following their advice during the election … She does not need advice from people who left her in a position where she almost lost her job.”

Officials have insisted it isn’t true, and Nick Timothy has also denied the claims. But senior Tories are convinced, and claim civil servants have logged telephone conversations including Nick Timothy.
